Intro to PIAno

About this class

This course is designed to help students learn how to play piano. Beginners, intermediate, and advanced players are welcome, and the curriculum is tailored to individual skill levels and experience.

Students will:

  • Learn piano in a lab setting

  • Develop note reading, music notation, music theory and improvisational skills

  • Play simple melodies of well-known composers

  • Play music of interest to the student

  • Create original songs

  • •Periodic assessments of your ability to play the music you have chosen or been assigned

  • •Periodic assessments of your knowledge and understanding of foundational musical concepts and information.

What you need for each class:

  1. A pencil

  2. Your music (this will be handed out in class and kept in a folder that you may take home or leave here in the classroom)

  3. A willingness to learn how to practice and increase your knowledge and develop your piano-playing skills


Your grade in this class will be based on the following:

  • Participation, work ethic, and class contributions: 50%

  • Periodic formative assessments: 30%

  • Quizzes and tests 20%

  • Work will be posted twice weekly (Monday/Tuesday and Thursday/Friday) in Google Classroom.
