The Maine All State Jazz Choir is an auditioned group of between 16 and 32 singers from all over the state. Students must prepare a solo audition for a panel of two judges that involves singing two jazz songs (one ballad, one swing tune with improvisation). Students work with Mr. Whidden and practice at home using mp3s and YouTube video research to prepare for this audition. If selected to the choir, students work with world-class conductors and spend a weekend (Thurs.-Saturday) rehearsing and performing.
The Maine All State Chorus is an auditioned group of approximately 200 singers from around the state. To audition, singers must prepare a solo audition for two judges that involves singing a solo classical piece, singing a particular line in a choral arrangement, singing a major scale, and sight-reading. Students work with Mr. Whidden and practice at home using mp3s and and sightreading materials to prepare for this audition.
The Honors Chorus experience consists of two auditioned groups of singers from the Southern Maine area: one mixed ensemble (SATB) of approximately 150 students, and one treble group of singers (SSA) of approximately 100 students. To audition, singers must prepare a solo audition for one judge that involves singing a solo classical piece, singing a particular line in a choral arrangement, singing back a series of played notes, and sightreading. Students work with Mr. Whidden and practice at home using mp3s and and sightreading materials to prepare for this audition.
