Countdown to College or Career
Take the ACT or SAT in April or June (or July where available). Take it multiple times if you want to raise your score.
Visit colleges beginning NOW. Narrow your choices to approximately 5 colleges by the end of the summer.
Attend the College & Career Fair in October.
Apply to all colleges of interest in the early fall of your senior year- Watch the Deadlines!
Prepare a calendar of key dates, including application deadlines, financial aid deadlines, etc.
Prepare a resume. If you have not done a significant amount of volunteering, begin today.
Beginning in the early autumn, apply for every scholarship you see. Also, check with your colleges for any scholarships they may offer, including departmental scholarships.
If your choice colleges require an essay, begin carefully writing your essay right away. Write about something that is meaningful and tells the college something about you, and have several people proofread it for you.
Prospective student athletes need to visit www.ncaaclearinghouse.net for eligibility requirements.
Tell your parents that you will need to complete your FAFSA before February 1 of your senior year (because this is a recent change, you should check with your college’s financial aid office for additional information). They will need to have their taxes done or at least an estimation to complete the FAFSA.
Keep up good attendance and grades. You’re almost to the finish line!
See A+ coordinator for qualifying information. If you will qualify for A+, you must complete 50 hours of Peer Tutoring, keep at least 95% attendance, and a 2.5 GPA.
