Each month In Focus will highlight a member of the Learning Development team by featuring authentic voices speaking to how the team member’s support honors the department’s mission, to build capacity in all we serve, each day. Our inaugural issue has Dr. Nicole Holt, Director of Learning Development, stepping into the spotlight. Dr. Holt is currently in her second year as the director of learning development following five years as a classroom teacher, six years as principal of Holland Elementary, and three years as principal of Sherwood Elementary.
Tabitha Eutsler, a 3rd grade teacher at Jeffries Elementary, described Dr. Holt’s leadership of the Professional Learning Advisory Committee by explaining, “During these meetings Dr. Holt inspires me with her willingness to listen to all ideas, synthesize that information, and come to a conclusion that is best for all, ultimately best for our students.” Kerri Bruce, Learning Coach at Holland Elementary, added, “Dr. Holt builds the efficacy of the people she works with by working shoulder to shoulder with them while demonstrating what it looks like to be the lead learner in a building or department.”
Whether large-scale or one-on-one, Dr. Holt consistently works to build the capacity of the educators whom she supports. Josh Groves, Principal at Glendale High School, shared, “She has helped to build my capacity for professional learning and my understanding of effective collaboration with colleagues.” This individual capacity-building was also echoed by Nicole Parke, Learning Coach at Weller Elementary, when she offered, “I can honestly say that I have learned more about coaching in one year with her as my facilitator than in all the years I have coached.”
No matter the role, the authentic voices were in agreement about one thing: Dr. Nicole Holt builds the capacity in all she serves by grounding the adult learning in its relation to student achievement and holding herself and her own learning to the highest standard.
