Originally from Columbia, MO, Sarah Logan moved to Springfield to attend Evangel University and has lived here since graduating. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Elementary Education and a Masters degree in Reading Education. Prior to becoming a learning specialist, Sarah's experience in Springfield Public Schools includes teaching second and fourth grades as well as serving as a reading specialist and literacy coach. Sarah is also an Agency Trainer for Cognitive CoachingSM.
Sarah honors the Learning Development department’s mission of building capacity in all we serve in a variety of ways. One of those ways is her work as a coach assisting to surface the thinking of others. Jessica Wagner, principal of Sequiota Elementary, explained, “In terms of support, Sarah usually takes a coaching approach with all of us (myself included), which allows her to lead us to our own insights and understanding. This reflection helps build our capacity as educators and leaders.”
Anyone who works with Sarah will notice the positivity she beings to all interactions. Paige Nelson, an early career teacher at Campbell Early Childhood Center, offered, “Every time I meet with her, I feel valued as a teacher, but more importantly, as a person.” Dr. Janell Bagwell, principal of Field Elementary, noted, “Sarah exudes positivity and energy. Her joy is contagious, and her work ethic is impeccable.” This positivity enables Sarah to make meaningful connections with the educators she supports. Mrs. Wagner also added, “Sarah has a presence about her that makes her very approachable. This opens the door for my staff to have open conversations with her about areas in which they are needing additional support.”
Sarah’s role as a learning specialist requires her to be adaptive and responsive based on the needs of each educator she supports. As Dr. Bagwell pointed out, “She will research and build her knowledge to support teachers and learning. Her heart is in building the capacities of others. Her impact in SPS will continue to ripple throughout our district for years to come!” As Ms. Nelson explained, “She has poured so much of herself into me, and I am forever grateful to have her in my life. Everyone needs a Sarah Logan in their life!”
