WHO? Karen lane? Who is she? Want to know? Ok…!
As a development Director at Seattle Men’s choir and Women’s choir, Karen Lane’s typical day looks really hard. It is filled with emails, grants, checking in with her team, and more emails. I do not know how she does it, but she does it very well. Her job and business lift up voices all around the world. Locally, she helps to bring people together and talk about social justice issues. Karen Lane is very happy to be part of such a great job.
In the small bit of free time that Karen Lane has she enjoys wood working, gardening, music, and spending time with her daughter. In her sophomore year of high school she went to her first Broadway show, her favorite part was that “the acting was just mesmerizing.” When Karen was little she wanted to be an actress on Broadway. She told me, “Maybe not now but that does not mean never,” and to me that is so inspiring. Seattle Men’s and Women’s choirs sing on stage, and they also are an important part of our community.
Seattle Men’s Choir had their first rehearsal in 1979 and their first concert in 1980, and shortly after in 2002 the Seattle Women’s Choir started. In 17 years, they have released 16 CDs between the two. Both choirs are active in creating programs and activities that are meaningful to Seattle’s regional conversations about culture and social justice. Last, they have toured the globe with over 10 well known stars. In conclusion Seattle Men’s and Women’s Choirs are important organizations. Karen Lane loves her job as Development Director and it was a pleasure to interview her.
