When someone needs help, Anne Streufert makes sure she helps them, and she helps them in a safe way.
If you are looking for a job that gives you the opportunity to work with clients, repair, take down, and rebuild bridges, then becoming a bridge engineer might be the job for you! Bridge engineers’ tasks vary, and they can range from making support beams to demolishing bridges and making new ones. Bridge engineers also have to be good mathematicians, as they need to lead mathematical studies for calculations and measurements. If that interests you, a Bridge engineer job might be a good job for you.
KPFF is a bridge company. They hire bridge engineers and Anne is one of them. She helps design, build, and demolish bridges. Their company is driven by these values: “Excellence, Trust, Relationships, Stability, and Passion.” In 1960, they were founded by Al Kelly, under the name of Albert Kelly and Associates. They are now known as KPFF.
Anne has two kids, Neby and Fik. Before she became a bridge engineer, she worked as a lifeguard. She said that it was very easy and fun, and helped her to know she likes helping people. She also really likes to garden in her free time.
A big part of Anne’s day is going to meetings. A typical day for her involves lots of them. She works from 8:00 to 5:00 on a regular day. She sometimes has to travel for her job, and recently she went to Alaska for work. While there, her days consisted of getting up extremely early, then working for 10 to 11 hours at a time, doing more work back at her hotel room, and then going to dinner with her colleagues. All in all, you can see that Anne is a very hard worker, and she helps a lot of people.
How Anne helps the community is that she makes bridges, which helps people get where they need safely. Beyond just getting people around, Anne also has to look out for the environment. “Like in the meeting I had this morning, it was all about the fish. Where we are trying to take areas with water and make them more fish friendly.” As you can see, Anne’s job is important for people and the environment.
