4th Grade
What your child will be learning in grade four mathematics
In grade four, your child will use addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division to solve word problems, including problems involving measurement of volume, mass, and time. Students will continue to build their understanding of fractions—creating equal fractions, comparing the size of fractions, adding and subtracting fractions, and multiplying fractions by whole numbers. They will also start to understand the relationship between fractions and decimals. Activities in these areas will include:
Adding and subtracting whole numbers up to 1 million quickly and accurately
Solving multi-step word problems, including problems involving measurement and converting measurements from larger to smaller units
Multiplying and dividing multi-digit numbers
Extending understanding of fractions by comparing the size of two fractions with different numerators (top numbers) and different denominators (bottom numbers)
Creating equal fractions (2/4 x 2/2 = 4/8)
Adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominator
Building fractions from smaller fractions (3 ⁄8 = 1⁄8+1/8+⁄1 8)
Connecting addition and subtraction of whole numbers to multiplying fractions by whole numbers
Connecting addition of fractions to the concept of angle measurement
Representing and interpreting data
Converting fractions with denominators of 10 or 100 into decimals
Locating decimals on a number line
Comparing decimals and fractions using the symbols > (more than), = (equal to), and < (less than)

Eureka Math
Springboro uses the Eureka Math Program for K-5 math instruction. Eureka Math is a complete curriculum that carefully sequences the mathematical progressions into expertly crafted modules. It connects math to the real world in ways that take the fear out of math and build student confidence—helping students achieve true understanding lesson by lesson and year after year. Springboro's Math instruction is also complemented by interactive computer technology. In fourth grade, students enjoy learning from their use in MAP Accelerator computer program.
The Eureka Math modules for instruction are listed below. Click on the module link below to access the resources and home activities connected with it, including a list of the daily lessons, video explanations for each lesson, "Tips for Parents", student homework pages, and family activities.

From the Ohio Department of Education, here are some real-world activities you can do at home any time:
Create illustrations of multiplication problems using items you can find around the house.
Using books that you have at home, ask your child to find at least 5 numbers that end in zero, then multiply those numbers by 10, 100 or 1,000.
Design a hopscotch board labeled with fractions and decimals. Ask your child to add or subtract as they hop.
Ask your child to identify the place value of numbers behind the decimal point. For example, in 3.2, the 2 is in the tenths place, while in 49.75, the 5 is in the hundredths place with a value of .05.
Ask your child to keep a running record on a tablet, notepad or phone of the different shapes and angles in your home.
Digital Program Options for Math Practice
Please be sure to monitor your child's safe use of computers and the internet.MAP Accelerator: A digital math program developed by NWEA and Khan Academy which offers personalized learning pathways complete with lessons, instructional videos and practice problems for students. Personalized pathways are designed based on the student’s most recent math MAP Growth scores. Students who use MAP Accelerator 30+ minutes each week achieve greater-than-projected gains in math with increased scores across all grade levels. Students will access MAP Accelerator through Clever.
Reflex - On Reflex, students practice basic math facts in a fun digital format. Students should work to achieve their green light each day. Students will access Reflex through Clever.
