3rd Grade
What your child will be learning in grade three mathematics
In grade three, students will continue to build their concept of numbers, developing an understanding of fractions as numbers. They will learn the concepts behind multiplication and division and apply problem-solving skills and strategies for multiplying and dividing numbers up through 100 to solve word problems. Students will also make connections between the concept of the area of a rectangle and multiplication and addition of whole numbers. Activities in these areas will include:
Understanding and explaining what it means to multiply or divide numbers
Multiplying all one-digit numbers from memory (knowing their times table)
Multiplying one-digit numbers by multiples of 10 (such as 20, 30, 40)
Solving two-step word problems using addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division
Understanding the concept of area
Relating the measurement of area to multiplication and division
Understanding fractions as numbers
Understanding and identifying a fraction as a number on a number line
Comparing the size of two fractions
Expressing whole numbers as fractions and identifying fractions that are equal to whole numbers (for example, recognizing that 3⁄1 and 3 are the same number)
Measuring weights and volumes and solving word problems involving these measurements • Representing and interpreting data

Eureka Math
Springboro uses the Eureka Math Program for K-5 math instruction. Eureka Math is a complete curriculum that carefully sequences the mathematical progressions into expertly crafted modules. It connects math to the real world in ways that take the fear out of math and build student confidence—helping students achieve true understanding lesson by lesson and year after year. Springboro's Math instruction is also complemented by interactive computer technology. In third grade, students enjoy learning from their use in MAP Accelerator computer program.
The Eureka Math modules for instruction are listed below. Click on the module link below to access the resources and home activities connected with it, including a list of the daily lessons, video explanations for each lesson, "Tips for Parents", student homework pages, and family activities.

Home Activities
For videos, fun home activities, and other resources that are all directly connected with the specific math your child is currently learning, just click on the correct module/mission link in the Home Connection section (above)!
From the Ohio Department of Education, here are some real-world activities you can do at home any time:
Create your own multiplication and division flashcards.
Use the numbers on cards, dominoes and dice to practice multiplication or division with your child.
Identify fractions around the house. For example, if a four-drawer dresser has socks in one drawer, then 1/4 of the dresser has socks in it.
Ask your child to identify the shapes and types of angles in road signs.
Measure the sides of four-sided objects in daily life (a tabletop, cell phone, etc.) and add all the sides together to find the perimeter.
Digital Program Options for Math Practice
Please be sure to monitor your child's safe and appropriate use of computers and the internet.MAP Accelerator: A digital math program developed by NWEA and Khan Academy which offers personalized learning pathways complete with lessons, instructional videos and practice problems for students. Personalized pathways are designed based on the student’s most recent math MAP Growth scores. Students who use MAP Accelerator 30+ minutes each week achieve greater-than-projected gains in math with increased scores across all grade levels. Students will access MAP Accelerator through Clever.
Reflex - On Reflex, students practice basic math facts in a fun digital format. Students should work to achieve their green light each day. Students will access Reflex through Clever.
