What To Expect

  • Labs will be more about learning than lab reports

  • Most labs will have an assessment associated with them

  • Lab quizzes will be taken in groups

  • You are going to have many successful failures

  • Your ego is going to hate me/love me

  • Your going to do worse than even our greatest physicists and they still blow up rockets with mistakes

  • You will see the universe and your reality in an entirely different way

Supplies Required

  • Scientific Calculator (required) – The calculator must be able to perform simple +,-,×, ÷, and trigonometric operations (sine, cosine, tangent). Calculators that can perform more advanced operations are optional.

    • CALCULATORS WILL NOT BE PROVIDED NOR CAN THEY BE SHARED!

  • PENS ARE ALLOWED BUT THEY ARE DUMB – Due to a fundamental design flaw, mistakes are difficult to correct with pens. You will be making numerous mistakes throughout this course.

  • Notebook – It is highly recommended that you keep a notebook to record your progress throughout the semester and to help prepare for quizzes and exams.

  • Your Formula Sheet! If you lose it, you can download and print out another on this home page

  • We use our laptops! Make sure yours is charged!

Classroom Expectations

  • All actions will be performed with kindness

  • Own your actions

  • Self-moderate your technology usage. DO NOT USE YOUR LAPTOP UNLESS TOLD TO DO SO

  • Cell Phones And Video Recording

  • Homework will be assigned and completed in the proper format. NOT FOLLOWING THE PROPER FORMAT MEANS NO CREDIT.

  • Ask questions

Lab Safety

  • NO HORSEPLAY. BE SAFE. USE COMMON SENSE.

  • Wear safety gear (face shields, aprons, etc.) when instructed.

  • Read ALL directions before proceeding.

  • Clean up your lab station so that it is neat for the next group to use it. Failure to do so will result in really horrible but easy to clean labs.

  • Do not remove any laboratory materials from the classroom. Failure to do so will result in really horrible labs.

  • Failure to perform any of the above safety guidelines will result in really horrible but safe labs.

Measurable Expectations

  • You are responsible to check Remind for communication up to 8pm the night prior

  • You should subscribe to the your classes calendar

  • Makeup assignments and tests need to be arranged within three days of returning

  • If you miss a review prior to the test, you are still responsible to take the test.

  • Communication starts electronically, but needs to be finalized in person.

Grading

Test are 50%

Labs and projects are 35%

Homework is 15%
