Keyboard Shortcuts

Ctrl+N - Open a new window

Ctrl+Shift+N - Open a new window in incognito mode

Ctrl+T - Open a new tab

Ctrl+O- Open a file in the browser

Ctrl+Shift+T - Reopen the last tab you've closed. Google Chrome remembers the last 10 tabs you've closed.

Ctrl+1 through Ctrl+8 - Go to the tab at the specified position in the window

Alt+Tab - Go to the next window you have open

Click and hold the Back or Forward arrow in the browser toolbar to see your browsing history for that tab

Press Ctrl and click a link to open the link in a new tab in the background

Ctrl+Shift+L - Locks your screen

Chrome Glossary

  • Google Chrome ​- A free computer program that is used to connect to the Internet. Google Chrome can be installed on nearly any browser-supporting device (phone, tablet, laptop, etc.)
  • Chrome OS ​- An operating system designed for online-focused use that comes pre-installed on Chromebooks and Chromeboxes
  • Chromebook ​- A laptop computer running Chrome OS
  • Chromebox ​- A desktop configuration running Chrome OS
  • Chromebase ​- An all-in-one (monitor and CPU as one unit) computer running Chrome OS
  • Chromebit ​- A small HDMI “stick” (similar to a USB drive) running Chrome OS that can turn a television or computer display into a personal computer
  • Chromecast ​- A digital media player similar to the Apple TV, Roku, or Amazon Fire TV devices, which can stream content (Audio or Video) from a smartphone, tablet, or other device running the Chrome browser
  • Chromecast Audio ​- A digital media player that can turn any speaker into a wireless receiver to stream music from your phone, Chromebook, tablet, etc.

Signing into Chrome will sync your settings, apps, extensions, history, and bookmarks on any device.

Classroom Applications:

Incognito Mode

This often misunderstood Chrome feature can really come in handy if you need to be logged into multiple accounts at the same time or want to see how a website will appear to a "normal" user.

To open a new incognito window use ctrl + shift + n or click the settings -> New incognito Window.
