The SEIBA Middle School Concert Band Festival is open to all bands made up of 5th-8th grade students in the SEIBA district. Each band will have 30 minutes to enter, perform, receive a clinic, and exit the performance area. Directors may choose to have their band perform for a rating (I+, I, I-, II+, II, II-, III) or "for comments only". Two highly qualified judges will give both written and verbal feedback using an audio recorder, and one or more judges will clinic your band following their performance.
Registration is $80 per band if registered by the date indicated above. Late registrations will be $90 per band. No registrations for the festival will be accepted within 30 days from the first site’s performance date.
Bands may choose to perform for a rating (I+, I, I-, II+, II, II-, III) or for comments only.
Each band’s performance should be between 6 minutes and 15 minutes in length, points will not be deducted for failing to meet these guidelines. Note that performances under 6 minutes make it difficult to ensure adjudicators provide a high-quality clinic.
Participating bands must perform a minimum of two pieces with contrasting styles. Examples are: classical, fanfare, folk, lyrical, march, multicultural, opener, overture, patriotic, programmatic, or suite. A march is strongly encouraged.
Legally purchased or borrowed conductor scores with measures numbered must be provided for the two adjudicators.
Each site’s schedule will have 30 minutes for each band’s performance and clinic with 10 minute transitions to set up the stage for the next group.
Two adjudicators will give verbal and written feedback, as well as a score for bands seeking a rating. It is up to the adjudicators to determine who clinics each band.
Site chairs must create and send a schedule three weeks in advance of their site’s performance date
The event chair will create a database of literature performed at this festival to share with local and state band organizations.
It is recommended that adjudicators have completed adjudication training on the NFHS.org website.
Adjudicators will be paid $200 for five or less bands and $300 for six or more bands. Mileage will be paid $.30 a mile, capped at $50.
