Welcome to explore the project titled "Building Industry-Ready Civil Engineers: Integrating Standards Education into the Civil Engineering Curriculum", which was funded by National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). This website has five pages (Home, About, Learning Modules, Activities, and Dissemination), which provide information about the project, the team members, the development of learning modules, the implementation of activities, and the dissemination of results.
Should you have any questions, please feel free to contact the project lead: Dr. Shenghua Wu (Email: shenghuawu@southalabama.edu).
This project aims to integrate standards education into the civil engineering curriculum at multiple levels at the University of South Alabama. A series of standalone learning modules have been developed to target freshman through graduate-level students, designed for seamless implementation within existing courses. At the lower levels, hands-on activities that foster connections with industry are intended to introduce students to standards and specifications in an engaging way. Team-based learning modules are incorporated into the Civil Engineering Materials Lab course to enhance understanding of material specifications and boost student engagement. At the upper levels, students will participate in mock standards development activities to further strengthen their proficiency in applying industry-ready standards.
As you explore this website, we invite you to watch the following two introductory videos.
This project is funded by the Science, Technology, Business and/or Education Outreach Program under: National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), United States Department of Commerce (DoC).
