Dr. Shenghua Wu presented findings from a new course on research technical writing at the 2025 ASEE Southeastern Section Conference, held at Mississippi State University on March 10, 2025. The presentation title is "Fast-Track to Research Writing Mastery: A 9-Week Intensive Course for Graduate Students". This wraps up a 9-week summer course in 2024 that included in-class activities, writing templates, peer reviews, and proposal development. The ambitious goal is that by the end of the class, each student will have a state-of-the-art review paper ready for submission to a journal. As of April, 2025, 5 out of 13 students have published their papers in top journals such as Journal of Cleaner Production (Impact Factor: 9.8) and Construction and Building Materials (Impact Factor: 7.4)!

Applying standards is a crucial skill for civil engineering students, beginning with reading and understanding specifications. On March 4, 2024, Dr. Shenghua Wu demonstrated a team-based learning module on using the asphalt Performance Grade (PG) table and relevant standards and specifications in the Transportation Engineering Materials course at California State University, Fresno. In-class engaging activities include using Kahoot for student competitions and concept review, as well as forming small groups to work on application problems.

At the 15th Annual South Alabama Conference on Teaching and Learning (CoTL), held from May 13 to 14, 2025, graduate student Pratik Neupane presented a project titled "Hybrid Approaches to Inspire, Engage, and Educate Engineering Students on Standards and Specifications." This initiative focuses on developing and implementing interactive learning modules designed to help undergraduate civil engineering students better understand and apply engineering specifications, standards, and codes.
The graduate student Pratik Neupane introduced the project that develops and implements the learning modules for undergraduate civil engineering students to better understand, apply the specifications, standards, and codes at the 14th Annual South Alabama Conference on Teaching and Learning (CoTL) from May 6 to 8, 2024. As part of the campus-wide inititive, Dr. Shenghua Wu has been selected as the Level Up program fellow for leveling up students' career readiness. This project is significantly aligned with the Level Up program, and we are working together to continuously improving our undergraduate students' learning, and better preparaing for their career.
