¡Hola!

I'm Mrs. LeeAnn Gilroy and your student is in my Spanish classroom. This semester I am teaching Spanish I and Spanish IV.

I love what I do here, and, as our new motto says, attitude is everything! I have the honor of having a student teacher in the classroom and she is doing her best to teach your students language and culture. Thank you for trusting to me your student and their education. I do not take it lightly.

Generally speaking, your child will be assessed daily. We do vocabulary assessments on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. We do grammar assessments on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Students will be responsible for online work at the site

www.vhlcentral.com weekly. All assignments due Saturday night will not be penalized for lateness. They will count 10% toward their grade.

We will address holidays and celebrations that involve religious and cultural background. We will see films produced in other countries that do not have ratings in the U.S. system. Should you wish your student not to participate in either of those, please just contact me at the school. (319-624-3401 x 1110) or email lgilroy@solon.k12.ia.us

Encourage your student to review vocabulary nightly, to visit the www.vhlcentral website to show you their text online, and to share what they are learning. We may converse with others virtually in other places to see what cultural knowledge we can gain and to practice our language skills. I am learning about reading in the classroom, and I'm trying to incorporate various strategies to help my students feel like better Spanish language users.

Spanish IV will be writing a work of 8-12 pages handwritten to conclude the course. We will research together, watch movies and read authentic texts that were historically important. We have learned a lot in 4 semesters and we can prove it!

Again, please contact me if you have concerns or questions. Your students' progress is important, but I am a busy mom of a Solon student, too. I have the best of both worlds now, and I understand ever better how communication is necessary. Please know I will contact you if I feel I need further support.

¡Gracias!

LeeAnn Gilroy
