Introduction to Spanish

Welcome to learning a language!

Señora Gilroy is my name and we are going to learn about language, especially Spanish, in this quarter class.

Please find the rubric with all the standards and descriptors attached here. All students have at least one copy of this and will be graded over these topics as the course proceeds.

In the gradebook you will see:

1. class preparedness- Each student self- reports whether or not they have all materials each day as they enter class. I will then transfer this to the gradebook for at least the first four weeks. As we get routine established I look for us to need this less. The green check means that student had everything they needed with them in class that day. If there is anyone who is not prepared for class you will see a 0 indicating they were not prepared.

2. Homework- Homework is any meaningful task tied to a learning target or standard and can come in a variety of formats. Homework can be an opportunity for stakeholders to identify strengths and continue to improve upon weaknesses. As the semester begins homework will be primarily spoken. After we work for about 3 weeks with speaking, we will begin written homework. Each student who completes their homework fully will receive a green check. If nothing was done, you will see a 0. If less than all but more than nothing was done, you should see a note explaining what was completed. Homework does not figure into the final grade.

3. Standards- Each topic we address will be graded by standard with the School board's recommended scale. Please see the home page for an explanation of each number grade for standards, or the document below which very specifically outlines my expectations for each standard.

4. Reassessment- an integral part of our curriculum are formative assessments.
