Two public hearings are required for the annual aid/levy process. The first hearing was held on March 27th at 5:30 p.m. (published in Solon Economist 3/13/25) on the FY26 property tax statement. Oral or written comments will be received but the hearing attendance is optional.
Let's walk through the notice of public hearing - Proposed Property Tax Levy. The CURRENT YEAR (FY25) tax rate is shown in the 3rd column from the left with a total tax rate of $16.22346 (last year at this time, the actual tax rate published was $16.28 based on property tax valuations as of 1/1/23), the next column to the right the referenced "effective tax rate" would be a rate produced by holding current taxation (property tax dollars) constant using next fiscal year's taxable valuations and the next column to the right represents the District's NEXT FISCAL YEAR (FY26) proposed total levy rate of $16.25168, an increase of $0.02822.
The next and final hearing (second hearing) was held at the regular April 17, 2025 (Solon Economist 4/3/25 issue), Board of Education meeting.
