Week 6: Subtracting within 10
Follow-Up Ideas/Activities:
Grab a 10 frame (draw or print off of google). Create a subtraction equation using play-doh. To subtract a number, squish the play-doh on the 10 frame.
Create your own Elevator Magic story! Write a story about going down an elevator, what floors you stop at, and how many floors you have to go down to reach your destination. Read this story to your parents, or send a video of you reading this story to your teacher!
Week 5: Solving for an Unknown Difference
Follow-Up Ideas/Activities:
Use balls of Play-doh, legos, or anything that is the same size to compare two numbers. If you have seven balls of green Play-doh, and 5 balls of yellow play-doh, how many more green Play-doh balls do you have than yellow. Continue this with different numbers.
Continue working on counting backwards. Stand up tall and jump each time you say a number. As you say each lower number, make yourself a little lower to the ground. As the number gets smaller, you get smaller!
Week 4: Use a number path to help you subtract
Follow-Up Ideas/Activities:
Draw your own number path with chalk outside. Hop from number to number as you practice subtraction equations.
Try out this Balloon Pop Subtraction game on ABCYa.com.
Week 3: Draw a picture to help you subtract
Follow-Up Ideas/Activities:
Continue to practice counting backwards. Start from a higher number this time such as 30 or 40.
Week 2: The minus sign means "take away."
Follow-Up Ideas/Activities:
Grab items around the house. Count how many you have and then take some away. Write the equation that matches how many you started with, how many you took away, and how many you have left.
Practice counting backwards. Start at the number 20 and count backward to 0. Have a family member pick a new number, and practice counting to 0 from that number.
