Upcoming in Language Arts

This week we will begin Unit 1 of our Benchmark Language Arts curriculum. The theme is Government for the People. Our essential question is "Why do people participate in government?" For the next three weeks we will be reading, writing, speaking and listening about how our government works and what it does. This week's text is about a flood in Fargo, North Dakota and how the community came together to prepare.

In writing, this week we will be working on narrative writing with complete sentences, descriptive details, and end the week pretending we lived in the town of Fargo and write a letter to the mayor describing what our town did to prepare for the flood. We will use details and evidence from the reading text to create our letters.

Upcoming in Math

Unit 1: 3 Digit Numbers: Place Value, Addition, and Subtraction

In Math, we started Unit 1 last week. We reviewed place value and started rounding numbers to 10s and 100s. We will continue with this skill this week and then move on to review adding and subtracting to 1000.

Keep your eyes open when you're out and about and see if you and your student can find examples of times when rounding or estimating numbers would come in handy. ☺️

A TEAM: How is the challenge going?

Students, did you find a good book in the library on Tuesday? Remember we go to the library every Tuesday. Please have the book you checked out in your backpack so you can turn it in or renew it. We also have hundreds of books in our classroom to read. If you want to take one of our classroom books home to read, just ask!
Parents: please sign the back of the bookmark when they are done and students can return for "Challenge Accepted!" Dojo award points.

You can do this!
