How much does it cost?

Band and strings classes are FREE! There are some costs associated with renting or purchasing an instrument, and those vary depending on the instrument. 

If there are financial barriers to your student participating in band or strings, please contact the band or strings teacher, as financial assistance is available.

When and where do classes take place?

Band and string classes occur during the school day, and are scheduled 2-3 days a week. 

Where can I get an instrument?

There is a list of reputable local music dealers linked here. PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE YOUR INSTRUMENT ONLINE! Many instruments found on Amazon and other websites are of very poor quality, and will not set your student up for success. They can be a challenge to repair and don't offer the maintenance program that local stores offer.  Please look for the brands listed on the Recommended String Instruments and Recommended Band Instruments lists.  The district also has a limited number of instruments that can be borrowed for the school year or the summer for a small fee.   

What else do I need, besides my instrument?

All students will need to purchase a method book, along with the recommended accessories specific to their instrument.  Please make sure that you are buying the book for the correct instrument.  You may also want to purchase a folding music stand, but that is optional.

How do I join band or strings?

You can sign up HERE in August of your fifth grade year, or by returning the paper form that your child will receive in class after the band and strings teachers visit in August.

When is the registration deadline?

We hope all students have made their decision by August 31, so we can get started with class.  If you need more time to turn in your enrollment form, we still want you to join!

When do classes begin?

Teachers will demonstrate instruments to all 5th graders August 13th, 14th, or 17th.  Students will have some time to make their decision and try instruments at the high school August 20th and 22nd.  Local music stores are also a good place to try instruments and help make your final decision.  Our first day of classes will be Monday, August 24 or Tuesday, August 25 depending on if you are in band or strings.  It is ok if your child is still deciding and has not turned in the enrollment form yet, they can still come to either or both classes.  Our goal will be for all students to have their instrument, book, and supplies by Thursday, September 3.
