📚 Scholastic Book Fair
Nov. 12–14 | Highlands Library
The Book Fair is one of our favorite events of the year — and we need your help to make it a success! We still have several volunteer spots open during our busiest times, especially when classes visit and during family shopping hours.
If you can spare an hour or two, please sign up to help students find their next favorite book and keep things running smoothly. Your help makes all the difference!

🛼 Glow Skate Party
Wednesday, Nov. 12 | 6–8 p.m. | Skate City, Merriam (9800 W 62nd Terrace)
Get ready to roll, Highlands! Join us for a night of lights, laughter, and skating fun at our Glow Skate Party. Families are encouraged to wear bright colors or glow gear and enjoy a midweek night out together.
🚶♀️ Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day
Friday, Nov. 14 | Meet at Fairway Park, 7:30 a.m.
Join us as we honor Ruby Bridges and her courageous steps toward equality. Students will share Ruby’s story before we walk to school together as a community. Donuts will be served on the playground upon arrival! Parents are encouraged to join and help keep walkers safe along the route.

Please join us for Ruby Bridges Walk to School Day on Friday, November 14th!
We’ll meet at Fairway Park and walk to school together as a community. Students will begin sharing Ruby’s story at 7:30 AM before we head to school—so we’d love for you to be there right at the start!
With your support, we can ensure a safe, inspiring, and meaningful walk as we honor Ruby’s historic steps toward equality.

Shawnee Mission offers Pre-Kindergarten in 21 of our 34 elementary schools across the district. Fee and no-fee options are available for half-day sessions. Shawnee Mission also offers full-day Kindergarten at all 34 elementary school buildings. Across the district, families will find qualified, compassionate educators who engage these students in active learning experiences that prepare them for their next steps in education!
