What days should I wear my gym uniform?

Students may wear their gym uniform on Tuesday and Friday.

Do I need to write in cursive?

Students must write their names in cursive all year.  Everyone will be expected to complete all spelling in cursive by Thanksgiving.  By Easter, all work should be done in cursive.  Students may print on spelling tests all year.

What themes will we learn in Social Studies this year?  How often will students be assessed on what they've learned?

The themes that we will focus on this year are :  Communities and Geography, Communities Change, Many Cultures/One Country, Communities at Work, and Communities and Government.  Students will be assessed each day, both formally and informally. Most graded assignments will be given as classwork. Homework will be given in each unit and will be graded.  There will be a test each month.  A study guide will be provided prior to the test.

When will students be assessed in math?

We will review what was taught the day before every morning. In the middle of each chapter, there will be one or two graded quizzes.  At the end of each chapter, there will be a test.  Informal assessments will include:  classwork, participation, and homework.

When will reading assessments be given?

New vocabulary words and definitions will be sent home every other Monday.  Students will practice working with the words in class during Daily 5 for two weeks. Each child will be provided with a vocabulary book to work in. There will be a vocabulary test on the Friday after having practiced the words for two weeks. Please study the vocabulary words each night at home. New spelling words will come home every Monday. Students will study the words at home that week and practice them in class during Daily 5.  Spelling tests will be every Friday.
