Students may wear their gym uniform on Tuesdays. We will have gym once a week this year.
Students must write their names in cursive all year. Everyone will be expected to complete all spelling in cursive by Thanksgiving. By Easter, all work should be done in cursive. Students may print on spelling tests all year.
Our religion units will focus on the Four Marks of the Church: One, Holy, Catholic, and Apostolic. Students will complete graded classwork assignments and projects. There will be chapter tests about once a month. In September, we will work on our Growing in God's Love (Family Life) program. During October, we will focus on the rosary. There will be weekly quizzes on the Mysteries of the Rosary this month.
We will review what was taught the day before every morning. While working on each topic, there will some graded homework, graded classwork assignments, and quizzes. At the end of each topic, there will be a test. Some graded homework will include completing assignments on IXL.
We'll begin the year completing the lessons in UFLI from second grade. We will work on these through October. A packet will be given on Monday that should be completed for homework. This may be returned on Friday. A test will be given each Friday. There will not be a specific list of words. The words will come from the lessons taught and worked on that week. After UFLI is completed, new spelling words will come home every Monday. Students will study the words at home that week and practice them in class during Daily 5. Written homework will be given three times a week. It should be completed in the spelling homework marble copybook. Students may keep the copybook at home during the week and return it on Friday to be checked for completion. Tests will be on Fridays.
We will read a new novel each trimester. Students will complete graded writing, vocabulary, and comprehension assignments for each book.
Students will complete daily grammar assignments in their grammar workbook. Quizzes and review assignments will be given about once a week.
We will work on several writing assignments throughout the year. Students will use the Writing Process which includes: prewriting, drafting, revising, proofreading, and publishing. All graded assignments should be proofread before they are turned in.
We do not have a vocabulary book to work in this year. We will focus on the vocabulary words from our novels and stories we read in Literacy Footprints while working in Daily 5 reading groups.
