Musical Theatre and RaP (Rhythm and Poetry)
We will start off by studying the history of Musical Theatre, and looking at how it has changed and evolved over time. We learn about key Musical Theatre composers and the impact they have had on the genre. Finally we will look at how Musical Theatre work, completing class performances of Musical Theatre songs and scenes.
From there we are going to look at the musical Hamilton, where we will start to compare RaP styles, write RaP lyrics, and rap to a given beat.
Film Music
They will learn about important composers to the genre as well as what techniques need to be used to create an effective piece of film music. We will focus on the idea of leitmotifs and characterisation through music. Students will explore the power of the leitmotif and diegetic and non-diegetic sounds.
Students will use the skills the have learned throughout this year in a culminating film music project. They will use music technology to create a piece of music to reflect a film clip.
Music from Around the World
We are now going to have an in-depth look at Reggae and the Pentatonic Scale, focusing on Chine.
We start by exploring the music of Jamaica, looking at Reggae. We investigate the history; Rastafarianism; the role of politics, and the influence of Bob Marley. We then explore the key features of Reggae, looking at the rhythm, harmony, melody, etc. that makes up this style of music.
Working as a class you will then learn how to play the chord pattern and rhythm to 'Three Little Birds'
