We raised over 400 dollars for our community partner, Manna Community Kitchen! We sold cups of mango, pineapple, and apple with Li Hing Mui seasoning. Li Hing Mui is a sweet and sour plum powder, popular in Hawaii. Manna used the money we raised to support their mission of feeding the Northampton community.
FRN volunteers met up at Smith's Botanic Gardens to make terrariums together. We connected with nature and each other!
In their own words: The need for justice and equity within our community demands constant attention, and we are grateful for the countless local organizations, committees, and activist groups working toward this goal. Sanctuary is a community partner to these organizations and groups, with the intent to raise awareness and encourage action. We lend our platform and resources to foster change through facilitating educational opportunities and collaborating with these organizations through varied events and offerings.
In collaboration with the Smith President's Office, FRN collected about 300 pounds of non-perishable foods to donate to the Northampton Survival Center. We set up at the President's monthly First Tuesdays donuts and coffee events, which we also support by collecting and donating extra donuts to Manna Community Kitchen.

Inspired by FRN's STRIDE Scholar Zoe Khan's research into the history of gleaning, we hosted a catered movie night in Spring 2024 to learn more about the practice.
Gleaning is simply the act of collecting excess fresh foods from farms, gardens, farmers markets, grocers, restaurants, state/county fairs, or any other sources in order to provide it to those in need (USDA).
