The Smith Food Recovery Network chapter, which ran from 2014-2019
We are a student organization at Smith College, comprised of nearly 30 volunteers each semester, who collect and donate excess food from around campus every single day. Our board members work on volunteer recruiting and training, data analysis, social media outreach, recording group meeting notes, reimbursing driving volunteers for gas money, and more! Find out how you can get involved here!
Every night, FRN volunteers call the dining halls to find out if they have extra food for us. Kitchen staff packages and labels food for us, making our rescues possible!
Manna kitchen staff Lee Anderson and Laura Manning plan, prepare, and serve hundreds of free meals every week for the community. FRN brings excess Smith food to Manna, who serves it to the community through home-delivery meals.
The Jandon Center worked with FRN founder Shastia Azulay through a Jandon Activist Fellowship, and continues to support long-term planning of FRN on an institutional level.
In the '23-'24 academic year, Campus Compact VISTA Autumn Guntor was hosted at the Jandon Center to support and build capacity for FRN.
