The Smith Campus GenAI platform is an intuitive and user-friendly platform hosted in partnership with UMass Amherst and utilizing the security and sustainability infrastructure at the Massachusetts Green High Performance Computing Center (MGHPCC).
This platform provides access to major generative AI models, including OpenAI (ChatGPT), Anthropic (Claude), Meta (Llama), Mistral, and can be used as a prototyping platform for AI agents or assistants. The Campus GenAI Platform beta is currently available to Smith Faculty by submitting a request for Course Support or writing to ithelp@smith.edu.
Students currently cannot request access for personal use, but are provided access based on participation in a course where the instructor has requested access for students or a research project supervised by a Smith faculty member.
Request Access to the Smith Campus GenAI Platform. Please submit a help request and provide a brief description of the ways you plan to use the tool (including for teaching, or research).

Getting Started with GenAI Faculty Workshop (Smith login required, 43m). Recorded workshop session to introduce faculty to using generative AI for teaching and an overview of the Campus GenAI platform.
Go to smith.campusgenai.org
Select Login with your Smith College ID (Google Sign In).
If it’s your first time logging in, a pop-up window appears with some information about the terms of use.
Read through terms.
Select I Accept to continue.
Try entering a prompt in the chat. The default model is OpenAI GPT 4.1 Mini, but you can change or compare models.
To use the default settings with your prompts, type a prompt into the Message field.
To submit the prompt, select the Return or Enter key. The AI model responds to your prompt.
To modify, refine, or further interact with your prompt, use the icons that follow each message. The icons represent the following advanced features:
Read aloud: A computer-generated voice reads the message out loud.
Edit: Allows you to edit your prompts and/or the responses of the various models.
Save & Submit: Saves your edit and resubmits the information to regenerate the AI's response.
Save: Saves your edit without regenerating the response.
Cancel: Closes the edit window without saving changes.
Copy to clipboard: Copies the content of the selected message to your clipboard to be pasted into another window or program.
Regenerate: Forces the model to try to create a new response without any additional context.
Fork: Creates a new conversation that starts from the specific message selected. This can be useful for refocusing the conversation, creating branching separate scenarios, preserving context, and more.
Smith Campus GenAI has several AI models available for use.
To select your preferred model, select the downwards arrows at the top of the page, located next to the current model and version names. (Available models are subject to change while the platform is under development.)

You can also adjust and switch models in the middle of a conversation.
For example, you can start a conversation in OpenAI with the prompt "Write an 5-sentence summary about topic A." and then switch to the DALL-E-3 plugin to request an image to go with the summary, then switch to Anthropic and request a list of title options to go with the article.
