I am an applied developmental psychologist drawing from developmental, community, and social psychological theory. I examine how young people form awareness of social, economic, and political inequity and how these attitudes affect individual and intergroup outcomes. I ask how youth experiencing different dimensions of marginalization (race/ethnicity and sexuality/gender identity) identify and reject oppression affecting both their own social group and other social groups.

This work calls for intersectional perspectives and approaches, leading me to employ both quantitative and qualitative methods. My quantitative work falls mostly within the Structural Equation Modeling framework, with the occasional experimental study. My qualitative work employs a grounded theory approach to analyze one-on-one and small group semi-structured interviews.

As an applied psychologist, I strive to translate my research into practice. I have partnered with AmeriCorps and non-profit organizations to evaluate program effects on youth outcomes.
