When you finish the handout and have looked over the answers, please answer Test Yourself Questions in your Tsokos textbook on page 152.
In the next couple of lessons, we will be collecting and analyzing data from a pendulum. It's important to note that pendulums are not ideal for looking at simple harmonic motion, but they are very good for looking at oscillations.
We will need Logger Pro for these lessons, so please make sure that it is installed and updated. You may also need, unfortunately, to update your operating system.
Data Analysis
After we've collected data, we need to analyze it! The following documents and the video on the right should help.
Excel Data Table Exemplar (includes some useful formulae)
The AHL content for Topic C.1 is primarily concerned with the mathematics of phase shift and the relationship between angular frequency, velocity, acceleration.
How does the mathematical elegance of simple harmonic motion influence our perception of its truth or universality in describing real-world systems?
To what extent does the assumption of ideal conditions in SHM limit the applicability of the knowledge it produces?
