The moral of the story is that playing a string instrument is EXPENSIVE. We try our best to assist all families by doing the following:
Providing rosin, shoulder rests, donuts, and endpin anchors at all 3 buildings for students to borrow during the school day
Maintaining a small instrument inventory at all 3 buildings for bus riders to play during the school day
Working with local music store representatives to keep the price of rental packages low and affordable
Fortunately, we are NOT "Pay to Play." However, we simply don't have enough funds to cover the cost of every single course material for every single student musician. We heavily rely upon the generosity of our communities in Stow and Munroe Falls to keep afloat.
Orchestra Tag Day is an annual tradition for the Stow-Munroe Falls String Orchestra Program. This fundraiser, held every September, helps raise money for the string orchestra ensembles at Lakeview Intermediate School, Kimpton Middle School, and Stow-Munroe Falls High School. On Saturday, September 6th between 10am and 12pm, orchestra students in Grades 7-12 will visit homes in the community, share their concert schedule for the 2025-2026 school year, and collect donations to help sustain the program. At this time, we can only accept cash and checks.
All funds raised will contribute to the purchase of new music, new instruments, and new string accessories, as well as help cover the cost of instrument repairs and bow rehairs. This is the primary fundraiser that the orchestra program relies on, as the school budget only covers a fraction of the ensembles' needs.
If we missed you during Orchestra Tag Day this year, don't fret: there are many other ways to support our program!
The biggest way you can support our program is by attending our concerts and performances! We love to share our music and our talents with our friends and family. Please visit the Calendar page to view our upcoming Concerts and Performances. All of these are free and open to the public.
At every concert and performance, we provide an opportunity for the community to donate to the program. Donations are not required, but sincerely appreciated. Look for the big gold basket that reads "SMF Orch. Donations!"
