Lost Book Policy

Textbook: Lost textbook fines will be assessed by the Office of Accountability and Assessments.

Library Book Fines: All overdue book fines must be settled by the last day of the school year. Unsettled fines will be carried over to the next school year. Book fines can be settled at any school, with checks being made payable to the school of record for the book.

Fines and Accountability

Student Withdrawal and Transfer Procedures - In order to hold students accountable for the resources they have checked out (laptops, iPads, chargers, textbooks, media center books, etc.) school staff must notify the media specialist of the student who is leaving the system or the school. The Media Specialists will let the school's attendance secretary know what resources the student still has checked out to them.

In-County Transfer

When students transfer within the county, the following resource procedures must be followed:

• The resources below stay with the student. The student will take them to their new school.

  • Technology such as iPads, laptops and chargers that are checked out to the student

  • Consumables, which are the workbooks that students are allowed to write in

  • Textbooks that are barcoded are to be taken with the student to their transferring school.

• The resources below must be returned to the school the student is leaving.

  • Media Center books and school specific resources must be returned to the school they are transferring out of.

• Resource fines and accountability information is located in the SMCPS Student Handbook (pages 57 and 61). Fines are assessed on items not returned to the school they belong to.

Student Withdrawal

When students leave SMCPS, the following items must be returned prior to withdrawing.

• All textbooks and resources

• All technology (laptops, chargers, iPad/charger, hot spots)

• All Media Center books and resources

• Please note: If anything is not returned a fine will be assessed for the cost of the materials and technology. Print material costs vary (20.00-120.00 depending on the textbook/resource); Laptops: 380.00; iPads with Otterbox 420.00.
