The Maryland Seal of Biliteracy is an award given to students at graduation who demonstrate a high level of proficiency in listening, speaking, reading, and writing in one or more languages other than English. To be eligible for the Seal of Biliteracy, a student must fulfill the following requirements:
Meet one of the assessment requirements from the department's approved list of English language arts/literacy assessments for the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy: and
Meet one of the assessment requirements from the department's approved list of world language assessments for the Maryland Seal of Biliteracy. This would be a score of 4 or 5 on an Advanced Placement World Language exam or Intermediate High on one of the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) assessments.
