Departmentalization

In Fifth Grade at Piney Point we departmentalize meaning you will have three different teachers for your subjects. Below you will find some common questions and information about switching classes.

• Can I schedule a conference with all of my child's teachers at the same time? Yes, just let us know ahead of time to avoid schedule conflicts. Contact your homeroom teacher.

• Will my child be overloaded with assignments? Each of the teachers this year have experience teaching all subjects in fifth grade. We know the content that occurs throughout the year for all subjects and will plan accordingly. We also work closely as a team to see what is being taught in each class.

• Who do I contact with general questions/content specific questions? You will contact your homeroom teacher for general questions and your specific content teacher for content specific questions.

• What is the benefits of departmentalizing? Your child will be able to work with three different teachers and this schedule will be a great step toward getting ready for middle school.

IF ABSENT: Please understand that parents and/or students need to email teachers if they will be absent. Any missed work will be available when they return to school.
