Homework
ELA homework consists of reading 20 minutes each night and record on reading log. This includes weekends as well. If your child has events or plans for the weekend, they are allowed to double up on one day if needed. As a reminder, any and all authentic reading is allowed. Audio books are encouraged.
Some days we will be able to read our 20 minutes in school. If this occurs, students will not have any reading homework that night, unless they want to keep reading, which is encouraged!

Originally from New York (Long Island) I came to Maryland in 2006 to attend St. Mary's College, where I played volleyball and eventually met my husband and settled down. I have a 8 year old daughter, Lily, and Lena, who is 4 years old. I also have two cats, Misty and Ace. Between being a mom, wife, and teacher, I like to run/workout and spend time with my family. I am a die hard New York Giants fan! It gets a bit intense during football season, so be prepared. Entering my 16th year of teaching, I've taught grades 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6th. I'm entering my 3rd year at Piney Point, after spending five years at Leonardtown Middle. I'm prepared to get your child ready for middle school rigor and responsibilities. I currently hold a Master's Degree in Reading Education.
Reading was not a passion that I have always had. It wasn't until high school that I really started to enjoy reading. So, I get the reluctance that some children have about reading. We just have to find the right book!
It takes a village to raise children, and I am excited to be a part of your village! Welcome to 5th Grade! Let your light shine! #beacons
