SMCM is a fairly small campus so we encourage you to walk to any particular office and meet your fellow staff members. Don’t just rely on email and the phone to conduct work business!
Be sure to read the InsideSMCM daily e-newsletter to keep abreast of important announcements, events and news!

Take care of your wellness!
Stay fit at the Michael P. O'Brien Athletics & Recreation Center (the ARC).
The Wellness Committee, comprised of interested staff from across campus and working in partnership with staff from the Wellness Center, serves SMCM by supporting events and providing information that contribute to the physical and mental well-being of members of the college community. Since its founding in 2008, the Wellness Committee has sponsored the annual Wellness Fair, walking events in support of the local food pantry, coats/winter clothes drives for local churches, workshops (e.g., card-making, guided meditation), collection drives for Toys for Tots, etc. They have also partnered with Bon Apetit to offer healthy eating workshops. If you are interested in joining the Wellness Committee, contact Leslie Tucker at ljtucker@smcm.edu.
On the first Monday of every month from 3-4pm (times may be limited during flu season), the staff at the Wellness Center (Chance Hall) offers free blood pressure checks. Call ahead (x4289) to minimize wait time. This is not a doctor’s appointment and you will not be given recommendations for care; it is a check to inform you and may prompt you to discuss your health with your primary doctor.
Yale University offers a free online course on the Science of Well-Being. Consider taking it!
The Campus Store sells SMCM swag/merchandise, textbooks, art supplies, electronics, greeting cards and gift items. If you have extra plastic grocery bags, they are always in search of bag donations for the reuse/recycle program. Turn in 10 useable bags (no holes) and get a coupon for 10% off an item. Alumni always get 20% off SMCM swag.
Cole Cinema is a 100-seat movie theater that screens current movie releases free of charge on Fridays & Saturdays (sponsored by the Office of Student Activities and the Student Government Association). Seats are first-come, first-serve and students get priority but faculty and staff are welcome to join along with their families if there is room. A list of upcoming movies is available from the front desk of the Office of Student Activities and on the SMCM SGA Programs Board Website. During the week, the cinema is sometimes used for lectures by professors and guest speakers.
