Things to Do
at The College
Visit the Michael P. O’Brien Athletics & Recreation Center!
There is no need for you to get a gym membership elsewhere (unless the on-campus location is just not convenent enough). The Michael P. O’Brien ARC is FREE to SMCM employees! There are Staff/Faculty locker rooms for you to use/shower and you can even ask the front desk person for a fresh towel.
Inside offers two pools (50 meter & 25 yard), a 1,500 sq ft rock climbing wall, three areas outfitted with a variety of state-of-the-art fitness and weight training equipment, rec courts and an arena
Outside you’ll find tennis courts and across Mattapany Rd is a running track at the Jamie L. Roberts Stadium
Group Fitness Classes (e.g., yoga, aqua aerobics, Seahawk pump, weightlifting, spin, barre) are regularly available at the ARC free of charge. See http://www.smcmathletics.com/arcinfo/groupfitness
Employee spouses and partners can also use the gym for free. They just have to pay a one-time $25 fee to get a OneCard from the Business Office. [Go to the Business Office Student Accounts windows M-F 8 am - 5 pm, bring a license and your vehicle tag info with you, fill out a form & pay fee (cash/check only), then go to the helpdesk to get your onecard and voila! Community members can use the gym via a $5/day pass.

Take a walk and discover the “Seven Wonders of SMCM” - SMCM was the first college in Maryland and the 4th in the country to become Audubon International certified. The natural beauty is abundant here and the grounds crew works hard to keep our campus looking spectacular. Just stroll about to see the various species tagged with Arboretum markers and/or make it a goal to find/visit these spots:
Garden of Remembrance - Located on the waterfront side of Kent Hall, this is a much-beloved space for reflection, with views of the St. Mary's River just beyond the framing arch of its pergola. Generations of SMCM students, as well as community members, have enjoyed this spot over the years. Proposals and weddings occur here annually; students study and play in its green surroundings.

Hidden Grave (at Trinity Church Cemetery)
Church Point (You have to walk through the Trinity Church Cemetery and down a hill to get there but the views are worth it, especially at sunset)
