Navigate to Wix.com and start an account using any email address you like. Select the modern artist template on the first page.
The thing to keep in mind is that these templates are designed to make things easy for you by including examples of elements that make up the site. We want to make sure we get rid of all the example stuff so we can replace it with our own, original stuff.
We also have to build the structure for that stuff to make it easy to find (navigability).
It takes some getting used to, but Wix is drag-and-drop and WYSIWYG. You can edit directly to the page; the menu on the left helps you with more structural changes, such as adding a page.
Name > edit text (your name)
Select and delete image &, social media links, and copyright info. Also select the cart symbol and press delete.
Navigate between pages with the menu at top-left next to the Wix logo.(Image to the left). Click Manage Pages to, well, manage pages. Ultimately all these titles will be changed.
Take a look at the titles on the left-hand side of the website. These will correspond with your individual projects you make throughout this class.
Select the top icon in the Wix menu (Menus and pages). This is where you can add pages and name them.
Click on the … next to “Store” and delete it. Do the same thing for “Members.”
Turn on the visibility for “Home” so it shows up in the menu.
Select “rename” for the first project, and for now call it “Project 1.” Delete the other projects.
In the individual page, you can keep the demo for now, but this will eventually be replaced by your own work.
Note: the more images the better! Each blog post and page should have at least one image, including your home page. Start thinking now about how you can design your home page to good effect. You want your website to reflect you and your work!
Also explore slideshow possibilities.
What is the difference between a blog and a website?
Click on the + symbol (“add” menu) >> this is where you can add elements to the structure of your website.
Scroll down and select “blog” > “add a blog to your site.” Wait for a few seconds, then click “get started.”
Layout: Up to you, change any time. You can also set the look of the “category” pages.
Manage Posts > delete everything. Alternatively, keep one post as a template only.
