Meal and snack times are great for learning about social skills, good manners, helping one another and sharing. Each child is encouraged to help themselves to water throughout the day and preschool children help prepare fruit using knives with adult support. Occasionally, the children will take part in baking activities where they have a treat, such as cake and in turn learn about the early concepts of mathematics through weighing, measuring, following a step-by-step recipe and making predictions.
We are fortunate to have our own in-house chef. Meals are freshly prepared and the chef maintains high standards in the kitchen, with children's nutrition at the heart of our menu design.
"I’ve lived in Wimbledon Park my whole life, so I'm very much a local and understand the importance of creating hearty, tasty and nutritious food for children to keep up with all the activities on offer in this heavily family oriented area.
My skills are very well rounded as a chef, I pull from a multitude of my experiences in culinary school, restaurants, cafes and catering companies. I enjoy the meticulous detail in the kitchen environment and the result of providing great food, adapting recipes and tweaking traditional dishes to fit dietary needs. Additionally, now in a pre-school setting, making sure meals are visually and texturally inclusive, adds a level of creativity that I'm able to cover. I’m constantly tracking any feedback that comes from the kids and staff about my food, so I'm actively optimising dishes in order to make sure everyone eats well".
Allergies & Dietary Preferences
We take allergies extremely seriously and cater to all dietary preferences. Your child's allergies and dietary preferences are noted as part of our registration process and then recorded in our nursery management system online so that your child's key person and all other team members are aware of allergies and preferences.
Every member of our team is required to complete food hygiene and safety training in addition to paediatric first aid. If a child has a severe allergy we record this in consultation with the parents via an Allergy Action plan and their key person is appropriately trained to handle an allergic reaction (e.g., Epipen training).
More information on allergies and administering medicine at the nursery is available HERE.
