Welcome to Child Protection!
Learners will actively participate in the process of preparing child abuse and neglect legal cases: medical record reviews as well as interviews and physical examinations of suspected victims with ample supervision and teaching. The process of detecting and working up possible child abuse and neglect will be emphasized. The M4 elective is available as either 2 or 4 week depending on the student’s scheduling needs and site availability. If court schedules allow, students are also able to listen to experts testify.
Child protection elective students along with ambulatory pediatrics fourth year students and clerkship students during the general ambulatory week will also have an opportunity to work in Fostering Healthy Children clinic. Children are required to receive a comprehensive health assessment within 30 days of entering foster care. Children <12 years of age in Saint Louis City and County are required to have their assessment at the Fostering Healthy Children clinic at Cardinal Glennon Children's Hospital. Many of the appointments are dual or even triple appointments for siblings placed together.
Students typically provide care alongside the attending
