After observing one class, I had taken notes in order to better prepare myself. Future School had sent a schedule to Dong Thap University and we would teach only in the designated days. I, in particular, was given two days to prepare for my first demonstration. My first topic was the divisibility of numbers by 9 and 3. My supervising instructor from DThU was very supportive, sending me several references to use, it almost seemed as if he was more worried about my demonstration than I was.
Given that Vietnam's medium of instruction when teaching mathematics is, well, their mother tongue, I had a bit of difficulty attempting to translate the lesson. Given that some technical terms when transliterated from English to Vietnamese were uncommon to the learners, our SI had advised us to make it a bilingual lesson instead. The PowerPoint presentations we made were primarily in English, but had Vietnamese subtext to allow the students to follow just in case they can't understand us.
Luckily, we had local Vietnamese buddies and teachers to help us translate our lessons. My next 3 lessons after the first 1 went pretty well with the help of everyone.
Here were the lesson plans I had prepared for the 4 demonstrations!Â
