The senior years at St Liborius shine brightly with the essence of leadership, independence, and a deep-rooted sense of community involvement. Our Year 5 students embody the heart of our school community as they embrace the role of mentors, welcoming the eager new Prep students into this vibrant world of learning. They offer comfort, guidance, and unwavering support, fostering an environment where these young learners can transform into confident, self-reliant individuals, ready to embark on their educational journey. By training as Peer Mediators, Year 5 students embark on a transformative path, honing their leadership skills and preparing for a year filled with meaningful influences at St Liborius.
Our senior students are promised a rich tapestry of exhilarating events and programs designed to ignite their spirits and encourage them to flourish. From specialised sporting events that challenge their physical abilities to unforgettable camps and official ceremonies, every moment is an opportunity to nurture leadership, discover strengths, and embrace eye-opening experiences that broaden their horizons.
We champion resilience, the courage to embrace new challenges, and the power of kindness as they prepare to transition from primary school to the next stage of their lives. As these remarkable students approach the culmination of their primary education, the Graduate Outcomes we envision will not only take root but will blossom, nurturing them into independent, lifelong learners ready to take on the world.
In Year 6, the thrill of leadership beckons as students are given the opportunity to apply for various roles within the school. These positions empower them to take charge, instilling a profound sense of responsibility and commitment that resonates throughout the entire year.
Leadership is not just a concept at St Liborius; it is the very thread woven into the fabric of our senior experience, shaping our expectations and aspirations for every student.
Leadership is an integral aspect of the development and education of all of our students at St Liborius Primary School particularly our Year 5 and 6 students. Leadership can take place in many forms and styles and these qualities are continually built upon and enhanced throughout primary school life. St Liborius views leadership skills as essential for children as they progress through their education in order for students to take control of their learning and the ability to achieve anything they set their mind to. We know leadership instils confidence, persistence, resilience and adaptive thinking. It supports students to solve problems creatively, work as part of a team, lead teams and work collaboratively with others. Leadership gives children many opportunities to develop responsibility for themselves and for others. We know that in an ever changing society, we need our students to be able to be adaptive thinkers by taking risks, being courageous and remaining open to new challenges to grow and flourish to their full potential.
All of our Year 5 and 6 students are given the opportunity to lead. This takes place in many ways such as presenting at our fortnightly assemblies, being part of the Student Representative Council and reporting to students in other classes throughout the term, leading tours of the school, becoming buddies to our new Prep as well as Year 1 students, representing the school at various excursions and ceremonies and much more.
Please take a look at our 2024 Leadership Groups below. All Year 6 students receive a leadership role after application and reflecting on personal skills, qualities and passions.
Our FIRE Carriers are a combination of Year 5 and 6 leaders. FIRE is an acronym for Friends Igniting Reconciliation through Education. The FIRE Carrier project is an initiative of the Aboriginal Catholic Ministry which seeks to keep the Reconciliation flame alight in schools educating the wider community about Reconciliation, our shared history and culture. The role includes planning for and running Reconciliation activities for the school, raising funds for the Opening The Doors foundation and ensuring as a school we acknowledge and celebrate significant dates in our shared story.
