Year 3/4

Students are highly engaged in our newly refurbished learning spaces. Our classrooms and vast open environments empower students and provide them opportunities to make their own learning decisions in meaningful ways. We also have access to 1:1 internet connected devices where we build students’ capacity to be thoughtful digital citizens, as well as a dedicated library space for students to interact with texts which they use for reading for enjoyment as well as research in their personalised Education Research Projects.

In Year 3/4 we are in the wonderful position of transitioning Grade 2 students into the senior area of the school, and preparing Grade 4 students for greater leadership responsibilities in Years 5 and 6.

The students adapt to more personalised learning in Year 3/4. A major focus for students is to build their cognitive understanding of themselves: their interests, what motivates them to learn and how they learn best.

The continuity and consistency of the Walker Learning Approach throughout each unit allows for seamless transition from Junior to Senior grades, developing confident, curious and independent learners.

Students in Year 3/4 also participate in their first school based overnight camp away from home. In addition to the various educational outcomes, the purpose of camps for students at this age is to build independence, resilience and self esteem. They build effective team work skills and develop interpersonal skills, consistent with our Walker Learning pedagogy.
