On March 10-11, 2026, our S5 ICT students participated in an immersive STEAM Week workshop dedicated to the mechanics of conversational AI. Utilizing Raspberry Pi 4 microcomputers, students integrated Ollama for local processing with Vosk for speech recognition and gTTS for vocal synthesis. The classroom atmosphere was electric as students successfully bridged the gap between code and physical interaction. The highlight of the lesson was the collective excitement when the Pi units transitioned from silent processors to interactive companions, providing verbal answers to student queries in real-time. This hands-on experience not only demystified Large Language Models but also showcased the power of open-source tools in modern edge computing.
Demonstrating impressive technical curiosity, one student even successfully pivoted from the default llama3.2:1b model to deepseek-r1:1.5b, proving the flexibility of the setup.
All S4 ICT students will participate in this intensive two-day training on July 21-22, 2025. The course aligns with the 'Application of Programming in Real Life' topic from Elective C, providing hands-on experience in developing AI-driven solutions using cloud computing and IoT devices.
In April 2023, the IT Innovation Lab funding subsidized a 3-day AI and Core Machine Learning Workshop, and 20 ICT students, from S4 to S5, were graciously invited to participate. The workshop aimed to provide participants with valuable insights and practical knowledge in the fields of AI and Machine Learning.
