As we continue to navigate the implementation of computer science instruction we've experienced a variety of challenges. The greatest of our challenges was Covid and its impact on the progress we were making in the 2019-2020 school year. Not having professional learning in the 2020-2021 school year was also challenging. Taking the year off, we felt that would essentially need to start over as we headed into the 2021-2022.

As much as we wanted to start off the year with a large relaunch of computer science in our district, we felt that the teachers weren't ready for that yet. We decided to take it slower than we would have liked too. Due to some staff leaving the district, moving positions, or not returning to our Computer Science is Elementary Team, it was a challenge to rebuild our team. We still felt it was very important to have two teacher representatives from each grade level. This will help set the stage for our goal of two computer science pathway classrooms for our students. Resources have been a challenge, but we are working to solve that issue. We would like to have more coding robots, we have some but enough for multiple classes.

To solve some of these issues, we have made it a goal to increase teacher support and understanding of computer science, we will continue to improve our district computer science curriculum, and we will begin to put procedures in place to keep our program sustainable. We are using funding sources to continue to purchase needed resources for our teachers as well.
