Pros:

  • I can live at home.
  • It has many connections and opportunities to work with actual film studios.
  • It has multiple opportunities to study abroad and study outside of San Francisco.
  • The Political climate is something I'm comfortable with.
  • It is the least expensive.

Cons:

  • It’s a state university, not a UC. So not a top, prestigious college.
  • It is close to home, so I will not really get the freedoms of being independent and away from my parents.
  • No marching band program.

Reasons for Research:

This is a school that I toured a couple of months ago. I had heard about it from my video production teacher and film technique workshop instructor. They had both gone there and I really valued their knowledge and expertise on film and multimedia. I talked to them about their education there, and they seem very happy with what they received. Ms. M said that she really liked the accepting environment at the school. Jimmy Ward, the film technique workshop instructor, said that SF State allowed him many film opportunities. He has worked on some Netflix originals and on multiple news and TV stations. He contributed his success to the education that SF State gave him. I was inspired by Jimmy’s achievements and I realized the stepping stones I needed to take and the opportunities that SFSU could provide me. I took this information and then went on a tour. While I was there I heard about the plethora of majors that fit my interests. I could take the major that I wanted and also take a minor in something else that I would enjoy. I also asked many questions about how this school would best fit me. After all the information I gathered from my tour and from alumni I decided that SF State would be the best college pick for myself.
