Following on from her fascinating look at Underworld Gods for Halloween, Rosa focuses on Winter Gods in Issue 5.
Boreas
Boreas was the god of the North Wind. He is described to be a striding, purple winged god with an ice spiked hair and beard. Boreas was one of the four Anemoi (Wind spirits) and as I stated earlier he was the North Wind out of the four Anemoi. To the Romans he was known as ‘Aquilo’.
Khione/Chione
Khione is the goddess of Snow, so if any of you like snow make sure to thank her, and if you hate snow then Khinone’s to blame. Khione is depicted/described to have the appearance of a young woman with black hair and a white dress, although some depict her with white hair instead of black hair. To the Romans she was known as ‘Chione’.
Persephone
Yes yes, I know I put her here last time with the underworld gods but she's the reason we have Winter as its part of the time she's in the underworld which is why everything dies in Autumn and Winter. The reason her absence causes plants to die is she is the Goddess of the Spring as I mentioned last time.
