In this article, Emilia Milne interviews a family member with an interesting job!
Q: What qualifications did you need to achieve this job?
A: I have two degrees, a BSc in Sports Science and I also have a Bachelor of Arts in Physical Education, as I was originally a PE teacher before becoming a Principal Teacher and then Depute.
Q: What skills do you need for this job?
A: One of the most important is organisation. You need to be confident and knowledgeable when dealing with staff, pupils and parents. Another is probably kindness because you're working with people, and it is important to understand all people see the world through different lenses and secondly, equity and fairness because you need to treat everyone exactly the same.
Q: What does your average day look like?
A: I’m usually the first in the building. My job is organising the day to day running of the school, things like the timetable and absence cover for any teachers who are sick or on trips. I also organise a huge team of support staff who work with our young people with additional support needs. I'm also responsible for transport needs throughout the school, which can be very complicated. I'm the head of the senior school, so S4,5,6 which includes planning for teaching and learning, safeguarding, qualifications, post school transitions and the other fun things that go along with being a senior pupil at high school.
Q: Any advice for students wanting to go down the teacher pathway?
A: It's a brilliant job, very fulfilling, but also very challenging. If you want to become a teacher, it's important that you work hard at school yourself as it will prepare you for what lies in wait at university and on teaching placement. My favourite quote is hard work beats talent when talent doesn't work hard.

In the 16th century somewhere around ancient China and South America crochet was invented. Although the exact date isn’t known it is estimated that it was invented in the 16th century. The first published instructions with the word crochet was found in a Dutch magazine in 1823. Modern crochet was invented in the 19th century and that is also around the time it became popular.
Crochet was invented as a cheap , durable substitute for traditional lace as most people couldn’t afford it. There is no single creator; the origins are still mysterious but it likely evolved from other fiber techniques. The word crochet comes from the French word crochet which means hook. And that is quite fitting as you need a crochet hook to actually crochet.
There are lots of different patterns to make different things but there are also lots of different stitches that you can do. For example there is a single stitch , a double stitch, chain , and an inter loop double.
I’ve been crocheting for over a year and it has been so exciting and relaxing at the same time. I made so many things and it is very good for when you need a gift.

The creators of adidas and puma were brothers, but one day when they were making shoes together they had an argument. This was a very heated argument, resulting in silence to one another. They decided to part ways and make companies by themselves. The owner of adidas was called Adolph and the owner of puma was called Rudolph. They both came from and grew up in Germany and after their argument, made companies on opposing sides of the city. This began arguments across the city as people would wear either adidas or puma shoes. As you can imagine this became quite problematic. People would look at the make of your shoes to determine if they liked you or didn’t like you this was quite unfair as people were judged by their choice of shoe.
The big launch of their shoes happened when an olympian wore the shoes that they made together at the 1936 Olympic Stadium. Jesse Owens did something that was so unexpected and so bizarre at that time he wore both brands of shoes.
Obviously both shoes were amazing but people were quite stunned by this act and inspired lots of Germans to wear both brands in the end. This shoe rivalry maybe one of the biggest arguments about shoes in the German history. I found this very interesting and fun to learn about.

Doctor Nowhere is a creator who makes art and analog horror. Now some people might find his works disturbing or creepy, but I personally find Doctor Nowhere’s work interesting. Doctor Nowhere’s work makes me think of that one phrase; ‘Art should comfort the disturbed, and disturbed the comfortable.’ - Banksy, and I would say that fits Doctor Nowhere’s art pretty well.
One of the most popular creations of his is The Thumper/Locust, known for its black stick-like figure, and it's actually one of my personal favourites out of the lot of them. Thumper luckily isn’t the only thing Doctor Nowhere has created, he has also made creatures like Phen-228 from The Boiled One Phenomenon, Nightmare Man (I think that's what he’s called, not entirely sure as I have seen it be called different things,) from The Oddity Compendium, Jeppy Jothers/Jeppy the Sunman from where_did _life_go, Longboi Bonsai from longboi_bonsai, Cone Zone from the Pink Hallway (Found Footage), and lots more.
You may be thinking back to earlier when I said his art could be disturbing to others, and think ‘It can’t be that disturbing, maybe you’re just exaggerating it?’ The thing is though, I’m not, there are genuinely some things that you may see and think its not that bad at first sight, but when you investigate and see how some of it really can be disturbing, from the video or picture itself, the lore behind it, or even just the art, and I’ll admit I lied a little when i said that at first sight that you wouldn’t find it that disturbing, well some might, some might not.
Doctor Nowhere is now one of my biggest art inspirations/idols as he is only nineteen years old and is able to make things this interesting, creepy, unsettling, and (to some of the little weirdos like me) oddly comforting.
But I would recommend having a look at some of Doctor Nowhere's creations as you might discover that you are actually interested in things like analog horror, if you do like analog horror and are looking for something new to look at, if you like creepy stuff, or if you just like scaring yourself for no reason, I would highly recommend checking out Doctor Nowhere as like I said his creations are actually pretty interesting.
