Challenge Four
CHALLENGE 4 - SUPPORT FOR PUPILS
PUPIL SUPPORT
Pupils must feel supported when in need of help, advice or times of crisis. To provide this support there is a specially appointed team of Pupil Support Teachers whose job is to care of the pupils in their house group in a variety of ways. Their guidance work is undertaken in addition to their subject commitments. We have 7 house groups and 7 Pupil Support Teachers. These are:
Arran House - Ms Pryce
Bute House - Mr Carter
Harris House - Mrs Linn
Lewis House - Ms Murphy
Mull House - Mr O'Donnell
Orkney House - Mrs MacAloney
Skye House - Mrs Adams
SUPPORT FOR LEARNING
UGS is passionate about meeting the needs of all our learners, and our Support for Learning Department, led by Mrs McDermott, often helps with this. The school finds out about pupils who have Additional Support Needs as they get ready to move up to secondary school. Teachers are made aware of their needs and the Support for Learning Department works to make sure they get the help they need to succeed at school.
VISION SUPPORT TEAMÂ
The Visual Support Team (VST) at UGS supports pupils who are on a specialist placement to the school because they have a significant visual impairment. Pupils are supported in their classes by VST staff. Their aim is to provide the right support, at the right time, every time.
