Talking to the moon - Bruno Mars
Talking to the moon - Bruno Mars
I have selected this track firstly because I think that Bruno Mars is a great artist and his songs are a perfect example of a ballad which can easily be portrayed in a music video with his heartfelt lyrics. I have chosen this song in particular because this song is very powerful with great production including many instruments such as a piano, an electric guitar, a bass guitar and a keyboard mixed with the lyrics which show Bruno being in situation of loneliness. For him life after they are together no longer makes sense. The moon for him is a way of expressing the feeling of loneliness and despair. Although this feeling is not reciprocal, we recognize the greatness of real love, which clings to the heart and memory. This can help me choose in which way I want my music video to go. This could be set at the time of somebody who has recently endured a breakup going through the pain and guilt after a recent heartbreak.
“Just the Way you are” is played by Bruno Mars with this music video directed by Ethan Lader and released on September 8, 2010. “Just the Way you are” reached the top of the US Billboard Hot 100 on the chart dated October 2, 2010. The song and the video positively radiates sweetness. From when someone hears the song, the romanticism and originality reveals. The video features Australian actress Nathalie Kelley and when the video begins she is listening to a song on her personal tape player as Bruno walks in. He stops the tape player, removes the cassette tape and begins singing his song. As the instrumental piece of the song begins, Bruno pulls the tape out of the cassette and arranges it into letters forming his name followed by the song title (something that gives the music video a different asset that has not ever been seen on any other videotape). This is very unique from other music videos using animation we have not seen before in other music videos.
This music video has a young, smooth, smartly dressed Bruno Mars accompanied by the love interest of this music video who is Zendaya when Bruno begins to play the piano starting the music. This music video's theme is very slow, jazzy and sparkly. The colour palette is blue, black and a vibrant purple. Zendaya is hearing Bruno play the this synthesizing keyboard whilst singing as she intently listens through the wall as her and Bruno are side by side in seperate hotel rooms. The lyrics to this song express Bruno's feelings towards a significant partner which is assumed to be Zendaya as the video portrays this. Lyrically, it presents a desire and yearn for Zendaya as he pictures and imagines them being together in an intimate sense.
