Welcome to Mrs. Paine's School Counseling Website! I am the School Counselor at State Street Intermediate School. I have the joy of working with students individually, in small groups, and through classroom guidance lessons. I also collaborate with school staff and parents in order to best meet the needs of students. I can see students regularly throughout the school year as well as once or twice on an as needed basis and work with families and students to support them with their individual needs.
Individual Counseling:
Some students can benefit from one-on-one counseling regarding academic, social, or emotional challenges. I work with students to help them increase their coping strategies and skills, and give them a place to process feelings and emotions in a safe space throughout the school day.
Small Group Counseling:
A variety of small groups are offered to students who may benefit from spending some extra time developing academic, social, or emotional skills along with their peers, and to students who are coping with similar life situations. Some topics that I cover in groups are friendship/social skills, anxiety, anger management, self regulation, grief, changing families, and new students. Groups typically meet once a week either during lunch or a time scheduled in-collaboration with the classroom teacher.
Classroom Guidance Lessons:
I visit each classroom multiple times throughout the school year and have the chance to interact with every student during these lessons. Lessons typically last 30 minutes in length and cover topics such as understanding feelings of self and others, problem solving skills, coping strategies, skills for learning and friendship skills.
Resources and Referrals:
I can give referrals to outside agencies and therapists at a parent's request and can pass along resources to help support families with their specific needs.
If you have any questions or concerns or are interested in having your child meet with me individually or in a small group you can contact me through email: apaine@skanschools.org or phone: (315) 291-2264.
