SCOIR (pronounced "score") serves two main purposes:
1.) For students & parents - a search tool to research colleges and maintain a college application list.
2.) For counselors - an electronic document transmission tool to send supporting application materials to colleges (recommendation letters, transcripts, school profile, etc).
All students have a personal account that was created by SJVHS. (login with student email address ending in sjvhs.org - not .com)
Students can also invite parents to have their own account and share information.
IMPORTANT! - BE SURE TO SIGN YOUR FERPA WAIVERS & RELEASE IN SCOIR. We cannot send any of your documents to colleges without your consent.
From the "Discover" tab, use "Search" to narrow down priorities in your college search. As you discover colleges you are interested in, add them to your "My College" list. Parents using this search tool, can send suggestions to their student's account.
Students must maintain and update their list of colleges located in the "My Colleges" screen.
Add Common App ID to SCOIR
Documents can only be sent by the Guidance Office once the college is listed under the "Applied" section.
First, ask the teacher in-person. They want to hear from you before receiving a formal request.
If the teacher agrees to write a letter for you, you will want to complete the Brag Sheet on SCOIR. You can find the Brag Sheet in the "My Survery" section. Complete one for each teacher.
Then submit the formal letter of recommendation request on SCOIR. This will allow the teacher to review your Brag Sheet & upload the letter to your account.
Go to the My College Page
Click on Application Documents
Click on Request Recommendation
Select the teacher, include a message & send!
You MUST sign the FERPA Waivers & Release Form (waive your rights) before we can send any documents to colleges.
Here is a video tutorial on How to Request Letters of Recommendation in SCOIR.
*Juniors can start asking teachers & completing brag sheets in January. Prior to this date, students will not see this function in SCOIR.
Once a decision has been made by the college, the student can update the outcome. Eventually, once a student "Marks as Enrolling" a final high school transcript will be sent upon graduation.
